![]() Once this was done I would permanently remove this hard drive from my computer. ![]() I was hoping to do this easily by cloning the Samsung 960 EVO drive to the Adata XPG SX8200 Pro drive but I was never able to do this successfully.Īfter the cloning was done I would one by one uninstall the programs on the Western Digital Blue 1TB hard drive and reinstall them on the Adata XPG SX8200 Pro 2TB. ![]() One of the reasons I replaced the Samsung 960 EVO 500GB (M.2) with the Adata XPG SX8200 Pro 2TB (M.2) is so I could have all my programs installed on one drive instead of two. In fact I do not even install acronis on any of my systems I just use the boot usb to make backup images. IMO this removes windows from the task and is MUCH more reliable. This is a very simple fix in disk management just extend the drive into the unallocated area and you are done.įor ALL cloning, imaging, etc I always recommend using the acronis boot usb. The rest of the drive will be unallocated. Note when doing the above, you will at first see your new drive as only the size of the old drive. Boot the system with the acronis boot usb and restore the image to the new drive. Shutdown and pull the old drive, install the new drive. Store the image on an external ie usb, NAS, whatever. If your old drive is already GPT, then disregard. This can be done without destroying all data on the drive however it does take a reasonable level of skill. If your old drive is MFT, you should convert to GPT prior to making the image. What I would do in this situation is to make an image of the old drive. I have never been a fan of using an enclosure to do a clone. I personally and it is only my opinion have found it too complicated and indeed IMHO less reliable than the one I use I know there are many followers of Acronis and the probable cause of that is the wrong setting in Acronis or the Malwarebytes.Ĥ. The boot selected choice in UEFI does not include the FAT partition one new drive The clone of the unlettered partitions has not been successful and therefore there is no boot partitionĪs you may know windows 10 on UEFI boots from the FAT partition, which contains and is often the boot in the UEFI firmware setup, the Windows Boot Manager.ī. The report inaccessible boot device indicates that either -Ī. actual drives or merely partitions on another drive, you should if you are going to attempt the clone again TAKE out/disconnect all drives except the original Samsung EVO M2 and when you are cloning the new destination driveĪLL other external drives should also be disconnected.ģ. Presuming that the partition lettered C is the 2TB Adata XPG and the rest of that 2TB drive is the unlettered partitions of that drive, Not of course knowing what all the other lettered drives are - eg. You should disable or totally uninstall Malwarebytes during the cloning processĢ. I presume after the clone, you did not attempt to boot until the destination drive was in the M2 slot and that was the boot device in UEFI and of course the original source drive was NOT installedġ. System: American Megatrends Inc., ver ALASKA - 1072009, s/n System Serial Number Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1060 6GB Processor: AMD Ryzen 7 1700X Eight-Core Processor, AMD64 Family 23 Model 1 Stepping 1, CPU Count: 16 I still would like to clone the old drive to a new one if possible. Note: I had to get the system going so I had to reinstall Windows 10 Pro on the new XPG SX8200 Pro 2TB drive. #2 TDBT SuperC M.2 NVMe SSD Enclosure with USB C #1 Plugable USB C to M.2 NVMe Tool-free Enclosure USB C and Thunderbolt 3 With it I tried the following four hardware combinations: Method 2: Cloning in Acronis Rescue Media menu (USB) Method 1: Cloning in Acronis menu (Windows 10) It started to load Windows 10 but after maybe 20 seconds it blue screens with the error message "Inaccessible Boot Device".Ĭloning software: Acronis True Image 2018 (paid version). However, the new SSD always crashes during boot. I cloned my existing SSD to a new larger SSD OK.
