The less you drive your car, the more you park the car in a garage or under a carport and the more carefully you wash and dry your car the longer the last will last and the longer the wax will shine and protect. How long any brand of wax lasts comes down to how the car is driven, stored when not in use and how the car is washed. The answer is, if the car is brand new or if the car is a older but the paint is in new or excellent condition, then a quality car wax, whether it’s a paste, a liquid or a spray-on wax, will last on average 3-4 months and even longer if the car is parked in a garage when not in use. Which shines the longest, a paste wax or a liquid wax? If your car has traffic film on it, then the wax will not last long, shine long or protect for very long. A good chemist formulates their wax to bond to paint, specifically urethane clearcoat paint. Here's the deal, car wax will not readily bond to traffic film. Then when it rains, this oily dirt mixes with rainwater and the cars driving in front of you splash this grimy rainwater onto your car and over time this becomes traffic film. See how the center of the road is darker? This builds upon the roads and highways and oftentimes shows up as a darker portion in the middle of the highway. As cars get older, they tend to drip motor oil, transmission fluid, power steering fluid, gear oil etc. Cars that are daily drivers get a build-up of what is called traffic film on the outside of the car, this comes from all the various oils cars drip when they are being driven down the road. If the paint on your car is neglected and you do not do any prep work then the shine will not last very long, maybe a month or two because the wax will not be able to make a proper bond to the paint. Wash the car carefully and in-between normal washing, use a wax booster to prolong the life of the wax.Apply and remove the wax according to the manufacturer’s directions.Do any needed prep work like claying and polishing to perfect the paint and prep it for the wax.The key to getting the longest shine and protection comes down to these four simple rules. Īs soon as you start taking your car through any type of automatic car wash – the wax is going to start wearing off prematurely because these types of car washes are too harsh and aggressive to the waxed finish. If you’re working on a new car or a car where the paint is in new or excellent condition, then you can expect to get around 3-4 months of shine, longevity and protection if the car is a daily driver and washed carefully by hand using a pH balanced car wash soap and a quality car wash mitt. Just like getting a custom paint job for your car, the final results always depend on the prep work performed before applying the wax. The more important question is how long will the wax last? And the answer to how long any wax will last comes down to how well was the paint surface prepared to accept the wax? Question: Which shines the longest, a paste wax or a liquid wax?Īnswer: If you choose a quality brand of wax, the shine will last about the same time no matter what form the wax comes in.

They aren’t endangered as other bumblebees. These are some of the most common bees in Ohio and the US. Two-spotted Bumble Bee Two-spotted Bumble Bee They wrap their abdomen around the cocoon mimicking female incubation. In the case of Brown-belted Bees incubation is also a task performed by males. Larvae incubation is generally a task for female bees. The bees also stand out when it comes to mating habits. This aggressive trait has been confirmed by research. This means the bees have to be aggressive to properly defend it. Only up to 50 Brown-belted Bumblebees live together in a nest. However, these are very small groups compared to other species in the state. The species is eusocial which means it lives in groups. The head of the Brown-belted Bumble Bee is yellow-golden while its abdomen is black. A bee is made up of a head, thorax, and abdomen. The species has unique characteristics starting with how it looks. It nests underground but it’s mostly seen when nesting above ground (believed to also happen in Ohio). The Brown-belted Bumble Bee (Bombus griseocollis) is a common species in the state. Brown-belted Bumble Bee Brown-belted Bumble Bee They even hinder fruit production in several species across the state. This means they don’t have a role in pollination. The species can even harm pollination.Įastern Carpenter Bees have developed a flower-piercing tactic that bypasses pollination while they access the nectar. However, they have a reduced pollination role in the state. The Eastern Carpenter Bee is neither eusocial nor a solitary species as it lives in small groups but the queen does most of the work. It’s believed this species is a transitionary period to eusocial bees. Other worker bees are mostly tied to defending the nest as maintenance tasks aren’t attributed to them. The Eastern Carpenter bee queen is one of the few queens to entirely take care of the nest. The queen is mostly responsible for nest-building and caring. The bees chew wood and use wood shavings to create barriers or walls inside of the nest. Common in Ohio, this species is known for creating tunnels used as nests in wood. The Eastern Carpenter Bee (Xylocopa virginica) nests in wood. Eastern Carpenter Bee Eastern Carpenter Bee Robber flies are among its common natural predators. These bees resist common diseases but they also have natural predators. Certain dancing or shifts in flight pattern indicates the distance to food sources or the availability of food in a certain area. The Western Honey Bee communicates through dancing. These bees have been studied thoroughly for communication. The Western Honey Bee is a eusocial species. They use a system of internal body heat regulation (they need 95F degrees to produce beeswax) to properly function. These bees are also excellent beeswax producers. It nests well in beehives and most importantly, it produces a lot of honey with good resistance to cold weather and diseases. This species is highly domesticated by local beekeepers. The Western Honey Bee (Apis mellifera) is the most common in Ohio. The way these tunnels are split by the workforce is in proximity to the center of the nest. This is why there’s a small percentage of bees that only stay in a given part of the underground nest. Since they’re so long, these bees need to stay organized to maintain the tunnels. There’s a clear division of labor in the tunnels. These can measure anywhere between 18 inches and 9 feet long. Unlike in other species that live underground, the Common Eastern Bumble Bee digs long tunnels. Common Eastern Bumble BeeĬommon Eastern Bumble Bees are some of the most dedicated bees that create underground tunnels. Otherwise, they have known as bees that nest in the ground. These bees like to eat honey given it has higher nutritional value. To make honey, the Common Eastern Bumble Bee (Bombus impatiens) has to collect nectar and pollen.īoth nectar and pollen are swallowed and then regurgitated to make honey which is a mix with saliva and enzymes of the digestive system. The most common bee species in Ohio is known for eating honey. The fracture site will swell rapidly after the accident as the bone and muscle bleeds into the tissues. Even a small laceration in the presence of a fracture should raise suspicion of an open fracture. If there is an open fracture the wound is usually obvious and the bone ends may be seen. There may be deformity of the upper arm with an obvious bend in the bone. The pain is made worse by attempting to move the arm or by passive movements of the lower arm. It is common for the patient to hold the elbow or forearm still, splinting it against the body. This may cause a lot of pain at the fracture site when it moves. The lower part of the arm will go limp because the lower part of the arm is uncontrollable. Sudden severe pain following an accident or a sudden force on the upper arm is characteristic of a fracture. What symptoms do humerus fractures cause? Other nerves and major blood vessels are more rarely damaged but may be injured as part of a gunshot wound or a major laceration. The radial nerve that supplies the muscles that straighten the wrist and fingers runs next to the shaft of the humerus. After the bone breaks the sharp ends tear through nearby structures such as muscle and even nerves or blood vessels. The soft tissue injured around a humerus fracture may be considerable. Throwing grenades during military training has a particularly high incidence of spiral fracture of the humerus! Direct twisting forces as in arm wrestling have been known to cause spiral fractures as has throwing. This can happen when the lower arm is locked or trapped in machinery and the body rotates. Twisting injuries result in a spiral fracture pattern in the shaft of the humerus. The fracture pattern is often transverse. This is a rare event but may be the first sign of the cancer in some people.įractures of the shaft of the humerus that occur from bending forces may have a short oblique pattern or may have multiple fragments.Ĭompression fractures happen when the force is primarily along the line of the bone. Pathological fractures through abnormal bone occur frequently in osteoporosis and may also happen if there is a deposit of cancer in the shaft of the humerus. Open fractures occur with high-energy impact injuries and with gunshot wounds but are much less common with lower energy events such as falls and throwing injuries. Related Document: Advanced Sports Therapy's Guide to Shoulder Anatomyīecause of the thick layers of muscle around the shaft of the humerus, open fractures are uncommon. You cannot lift up or rotate the arm below the break. This is significant because it means that any break of the humerus interrupts the function of the arm. In adults it is virtually impossible to break the tube on one side only. There are different patterns of fracture depending on the mechanism of injury, but all involve a complete break around the entire circumference of the tubular bone. The shaft of the humerus can be broken almost anywhere along its length, although a fracture is more common at the middle of the shaft and below. In this guide we are concerned with injuries to the tubular shaft of the humerus. The upper arm is so muscular that it is quite difficult to feel the actual bone. Most of the shaft of the bone is tubular but it flattens out at the lower end. It is joined to the shaft of the bone by a region called the neck of the humerus. What structures are most commonly injured?Īt the shoulder the humerus has a rounded end (the humeral head) that forms part of the shoulder joint.
It is mainly used to gather metrics.Īn example of what you would get back from a “Metrics” endpoint would be:. the Nagios-style approach) to check on the status of a server/application. It is not the kind of monitoring tool that you’d use to kick off a Bash/Perl/Python/other language script (i.e. Rather than doing checks based upon scripts returning status codes, it gathers metrics from endpoints and stores them in a Time Series Database (TSDB). Prometheus?Īnyone who’s looked into monitoring for the past few years will likely have heard of Prometheus. Not to say it was bad at it, but it is the kind of monitoring tool I would have killed for in my previous career (i.e. Zabbix was good, but I found it did a much better job of networking gear than it did Linux or generic blackbox-style monitoring. Besides, the minimum requirements to run it were more than all the devices in my house combined. I liked the idea of Sensu, but there was no way I could standup Redis and RabbitMQ just for this. I wondered about Icinga2, Check_MK and other Nagios-based tools, but they either added more resource requirements or would still have some of the same issues as Nagios. I looked around to see if anything else could do the job, but I couldn’t realistically just rip down a monitoring stack and plug in a new one, in the hope it was better. Increasing the frequency of the checks would probably tax the little RPI too much. The Firestick would drop out, but by the time Nagios was ready to do another check, the Firestick would have come back (or it would have been rebooted so the kids can see Grampy Rabbit or Chase again). While I had more visibility of what was happening in my home network, the default check times on Nagios made it so I’d actually not see the problems quick enough. Having it flash up in a monitoring system made me put time into actually fixing the issues. I was getting some useful statistics, and it helped me fix a few underlying issues I had either not noticed, and half-ignored to deal with another day. I had monitored all my internal network, as well as my VPS. Using anything more demanding (which given I’ve seen Observium bring a fairly decent spec’d Dell server to its knees) was out of the question. The only “host” I had spare was a Raspberry Pi 2. At least by doing this, I could get more of a handle on Zabbix itself. Other than adding a couple of graphs, I’d had little to no involvement in using or configuring it. We do use Zabbix at my workplace, but it isn’t a primary monitoring tool. However I know it well enough to be able to get an instance up and running, and monitoring all elements of my home network in a couple of hours at most. Also I had to use Debian Buster (well, Raspbian Buster) for my monitoring host as Nagios was pulled from the Debian archives in Debian Stretch, with Debian pushing people to use Icinga2 instead. It has a number of shortcomings, including not being very dynamic and the configuration takes a lot of getting used to. Nagios is the primary monitoring tool at my current workplace. I used Nagios and Zabbix for three reasons. This is all in dire need of an update, but not really feasible currently. My home “network” mostly consists of a few Raspberry Pis, a couple of other random ARM boards, and a mish mash of cheap switches (see: unmanaged low end TP Link/Netgear, not old enterprise kit) and routers. This usually happened in the middle of the kids watching Peppa Pig or Paw Patrol. This was in part due to frequent dropouts of an Amazon Firestick. A couple of months ago I decided to start monitoring my home network.
